1st-year SHS students reopening not compulsory – MoE PRO

Speaking in an interview with Accra-based Asempa 94.7 FM monitored by EducationWeb, Kwarteng said April 4, 2022, was set as a tentative date on the 2022 academic calendar for the next batch of Free SHS students to report to school.

According to the MoE spokesperson, the provisional school reporting date announced by the Ghana Education Service does not necessarily mean parents obligatory are to send their wards to their respective placed schools on April 4.

His comment follows the announcement made by the management of the Ghana Education Service (GES) on Thursday for students who qualified for computer placement to report to their schools to commence admission processes.

“Management of the Ghana Education Service (GES) wishes to remind parents, guardians and students, that admission processes for first-years in all Senior High/Technical schools are going on smoothly,” the Service stated on Thursday.

In a statement dated March 31, 2022, the Education Service said the admission or admission process is free and that under no circumstance should a parent or student pay money to any teacher or head of Senior High/Technical school.

“School Authorities are cautioned that under no circumstances should there be a demand for money that would hinder the admission process of any the placed student,” the release signed by the GES spokeswoman, Cassandra noted.

Some parents of students who sat for the 2021 BECE citing the delay in the release of the 2021 school placement have expressed disappointment in the management of the Ghana Education Service for not extending the reopening date.

Thursday after the Service said the reporting day remains April 4, 2022, they told EducationWeb the school reopening date is limited for them to prepare adequately before they send their wards to their placed secondary schools.

The parents’ displeasure comes after they petitioned the Ministry of Education (MoE) and the Director-General of the Ghana Education Service to postpone the date but unfortunately that was not the case after today’s announcement.

  1. Please my girl had 17 and was given self placement but the schools they put there are places I don’t even know far far away I’m in Ashiaman how can my daughter attend school at Oti region? Please help me

  5. The blooms, washing powder, cutlasses and other stuff the schools take are times too much and they intended to do this so that they can sell them to market women and shops for money, a student to send hoe machete rake 3 blooms and about 3 package of 50g of washing powders it is too much much

  6. My son had aggregate 10 and could not be placed in any of his first 3 choices. Are we being genuine in this placement exercise?

  7. If the Free SHS is really free why are some heads of some school conniving and billing parents with so many stuff before they can feel comfortable to come to school.
If we are to mention the name of this schools I will not hesitate on that.

  8. We have to be sincere to ourselves. The Authorities know very well that they did not release the school placement early enough for parents to prepare adequately.
Placement were released last weekend checked on Monday this week prospectus were given out on Tuesday or Wednesday and even some on Thursday this week. How do you expect majority of parents to prepare adequately for their wards to report to school on Monday 24th April which is less than one week.
By saying that reopening date is not compulsory by Authorities I think in out of place.
Authorities must know that preparation for the date of reopening for students and their parents is woefully inadequate.
They therefore have to come again.
    Thank you.

  9. How do our parents prepare themselves to send their children to school within one week time. I’m also a student but i think the days is not enough.

  10. We the students, how ever some haven’t prepared for the 4 of April which is the date of the school reopening.so many people will not be able to go to school on that very good day

  11. I think the date is good because Easter is just around so is better they report on the stated date because they have been in the house for quiet too long

  12. My two brothers are to pay 50cedis and 60cedis before they are given the prospectus, what too is that?

  13. The ministry must get serious and be proactive, and cease from their lip service management. What kind of management is that? Their actions clearly shows how reckless and unthoughtful their educational programs are. If reopening is not compulsory, then how long must Senior High Schools wait for a clean-cut reopening date to begin academic work? Ghana’s education system is sinking.
