The Council of Private Schools following the upcoming release of the school placement has urged the Ghana Education Service to ensure private school pupils are equally placed in Category A or top schools as those from the public sector.

The spokesman for the Ghana National Council of Private Schools (GNACOPS) who made the appeal said his outfit has observed GES prioritizes students from public schools over those from the private sector during the school placement.
Samuel Nyamekye speaking to EducationWeb said it is unfair and unfortunate for the Service to deny private school students who pay their BECE registration fee access to ‘Category A’ schools by reserving 30% for public schools.
“It is very unfair and unfortunate for private school students to pay their BECE registration fee and be denied full access to Category A schools by reserving 30% for public schools. We need an explanation to this,” he lamented.
The Private Schools Council spokesperson citing the 1992 Constitution, article 25 clause 1 and 2, said every individual who wishes to operate a private business, and or school does so without any form of hindrances or intimidations.
“We are calling on the Management of the Ghana Education Service (GES) to come out and explain to us and the entire public for such unwarranted policy to be formulated and implemented in our education system,” Samuel told the Web.
Barring any circumstance, the Director-General of the Service, Prof Kwasi Opoku-Amankwa has said his outfit in collaboration with the Ministry of Education (MoE) next week will release the 2021 computer school placements.
In an interview with the Ghanaian Times newspaper, the Professor said the Service has already commenced the selection and placement process and from next week it will be released for students to check their school placement.
Declining to disclose the number of students to be placed this year, the Director-General said “What we are currently doing is looking at the attrition figures to come out with the exact number of students who qualified for placement.”
He also told the newspaper the Management of the Computerized School Selection and Placement System (CSSPS) and his outfit are working to ensure 2021 BECE students go to school as scheduled on the academic calendar.
“All qualified prospective students would be placed to enable them to have access to Senior High School (SHS) under the government’s Free Senior High School (FSHS) policy,” the Director-General of the Ghana Education Service stated.

If the best teachers are in the government schools, why should such children be given a 30% start ahead of the children from Private Schools? I don’t get it.
