Education Minister, Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum says the GES recruitment portal in the shortest possible time will be opened for newly trained teachers who completed College of Education last year to submit employment applications.
Hon Osei Yaw in an interview monitored by EducationWeb.com.gh said the reopening of the Ghana Education Service recruitment portal has been delayed amid the change in the academic calendar as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic.
The Minister for Education indicated that the next academic year will commence in January 2022, thus the need for the newly trained teaches to be recruited into service to remain calm and be patient as GES goes through processes.
He also encouraged the new teachers who have completed national service and passed the Ghana teacher licensure examination (GTLE) conducted by National Teaching Council (NTC) to get their documents ready for recruitment.
Asked if trained teachers from private Colleges of Education will be considered for employment this year, the Bosomtwe Member of Parliament said GES will recruit more teachers from Jackson College of Education.
Dr Osei Adutwum also said his outfit is in talks with the Ministry of Finance (MoF) for financial clearance to recruit more graduate teachers in the next academic year to help improve education at the Senior High School level.
The Minister for Finance, Ken Ofori-Atta late this year granted the Ministery of Education (MoE) clearance for the Director-General of Ghana Education Service to recruit more than 16,000 qualified newly trained teachers into service.
“Approval is also granted for their emolument to be charged against the compensation of Employees vote of the Ministry of Education in the 2020 budget,” a letter to the Minister for Education, Dr Adutwum stated.
It added, “the Director-General of GES is to ensure that the newly trained teachers have their documents processed in time and placed on mechanized payroll early enough to enable Controller effect payment of their salaries.”
According to the financial clearance statement, the effective date for the appointment should not be earlier than December 1, 2021. It said that the clearance expires at the end of 31 December and cannot be used, therefore.
