GES gives deadline to open 2021 BECE school placement portal

The Ghana Education Service (GES) after it last closed the computerized school placement portal (https://cssps.gov.gh) on March 10, 2021, says it will from today reopen the portal for students who sat for 2021 BECE to check their schools.

Prof Kwasi Opoku Amankwa, the Director-General of GES in an interview monitored by EducationWeb said more than 340,000 candidates who sat for the 2020 BECE were automatically placed into various public second cycle schools.

He told an Accra-based Television stated a total of 151,266 qualified Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) candidates were also allowed to do self-placement base on the aggregate they had in the 30th edition of the BECE.

It is currently not official how many 2021 BECE graduates will be placed automatically or do self-placement but the National Coordinator of CSSPS, Mark Mensah has said 90% of students who partook in the BECE will get placement.

In a discussion with Kumasi-based OTEC FM, the CSSPS Coordinator said adequate measures have been put in place by his outfit, Ghana Education Service and Ministry of Education (MoE) to ensure smooth school placement this month.

He indicated unlike in 2020 that 85% of the students who participated in the 30th edition of the BECE for School qualified for posting, the Ghana Education Service (GES) this academic year has targeted to place 90% of the students.

He told the host of OTEC FM’S political show ‘Dwabrem’, Dr Cash that four categories of students including BECE for Private candidates this year will be placed under the Computerized School Selection and Placement System (CSSPS).

“GES is ready to place four categories of candidates, the private candidates who sat to better their grades, the foreign candidates and the re-entry candidates who could not get placement due to peculiar issues last year,” he told OTEC.

Expected to be out this week, Yaw Opoku Mensah, the Deputy spokesperson on Tuesday told EducationWeb the Ministry of Education (MoE) is hoping to place all students who passed the just-ended national examination.

Asked if the school postings will be released by the Computerized School Selection and Placement System this week as announced by GES Director, the spokesman for MoE, Kwasi Kwarteng said if not this week then March 21, 2022.
