Sherry Pollex, longtime girlfriend of NASCAR driver Martin Truex Jr., has died following a nine-year battle with cancer, according to press reports. She died at the age of 44, one year older than late ‘The Young and the Restless’ and ‘General Hospital’ actor Billy Miller.
Pollex is known as the daughter of longtime NASCAR car owner Greg Pollex. Her father’s team won the 2000 championship in what is now the NASCAR Xfinity Series with driver Jeff Green. Her relationship with Martin Truex Jr began when she worked as racing public relations in 2005. Their connection got stronger, and they reportedly purchased a home in Mooresville, N.C., near Lake Norman, in a popular residential location for NASCAR family members.
Pollex, a Michigan native, has championed various cancer-related causes through the Martin Truex Jr. Foundation, including programs for Ovarian and Childhood cancers. She then established the SherryStrong.org website to help women understand early detection and treatment choices for ovarian cancer, as well as the Sherry Strong Integrative Medicine Oncology Clinic at Novant Health in Charlotte, North Carolina.
