According to the body camera video, the suspect, David DePape, grabbed the tool from Paul Pelosi, 82, and lunged at him while holding a hammer over his head. Unseen by the video, Pelosi receives the strike, and as the officers rush into the home and leap on DePape, one of them yells expletives.

On Thursday, Nancy Pelosi told reporters that her husband’s safety was her top priority and that she was unsure if she would watch the tape if it was made public but a state court judge decided that the footage shouldn’t be kept a secret.

Paul was attacked on October 28, 2022, by an intruder who was eventually identified as David DePape. Paul was seriously hurt during the incident and required surgery for a skull fracture.

The evidence includes portions of Paul Pelosi’s Oct. 28 911 call, Capitol police surveillance film, a body camera worn by one of the two responding officers, and an audio clip of DePape’s police interview.
