According to the National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS) majority of Ghanaian students currently in various Senior High Schools (SHS) would be at home if not for the Akufo-Addo Free Senior High School (Free SHS) policy.
The Union comment comes after Dr Matthew O. Prempeh, the immediate past Education Minister and advocate of the country’s popular intervention since independent announced his exit from the Ministry of Education.
NUGS commending the former Education Minister for his enormous support of the Free SHS programme presented him with a sash and a citation citing that the policy has provided an opportunity to many children.
“Free SHS programme which has provided an immense opportunity to many children who would otherwise not be able to access SHS education,” the President of NUGS Mr. Isaac Hyde said on behalf of his outfit.
His Excellency Nana Akufo-Addo September 2017 introduced the Free Senior High School (Free SHS) policy to enable candidates who will be successful at BECE to continue their secondary education for free.
