Users of WhatsApp owned Facebook have register disagreement with the Management of the Accra-based University of Professional Studies (UPSA) for its decision to sack improperly dressed students from lecture halls.
This comes after the Vice-Chancellor of UPSA, Prof. F. O Amartey last Friday announced at the 2021 matriculation ceremony that lectures have been directed to walk out students whose outfit they see not fit from lecture halls
This Prof. Abednego F. O. Amartey said is to ensure students of the university are disciplined and act as good ambassadors of UPSA.
According to him, indecent dressing in lectures goes contrary to their pledge to adhere to a professional appearance at all times.
But, some social media users following the university’s decision has said in as much as a student cannot be compelled to write an examination, UPSA cannot also compel a student to dress to a lecturer’s satisfaction.
“The students are all adults and must be treated as such. Lecturers should learn to operate within their jurisdiction and should desist from oppressors rule,” a social media user identified as Isaac Asare stressed.
He however admitted that the even though the university is an academic discourse community, but it must not seem like the animal kingdom adding that “For me, I don’t see anything wrong with any kind of dressing”
Yes I understand, it’s an academic discourse community, but must not seem like the animal kingdom. For me, I don’t see anything wrong with any kind of dressing. I just don’t care, and it doesn’t disrupt my attention too. A decade ago on UG campus, it was worse but nothing happened.”
