Flashback: Review Free SHS policy for better results – CHASS to Akufo-Addo

President of the Conference of Heads of Assisted Secondary Schools (CHASS) Alhaji Yakub Abubakar last year called on the government to review the 4-year-old Free SHS policy to address challenges confronting the programme.

Alhaji Abubakar speaking to delegates at the 58th annual Conference of CHASS in Cape Coast noted the Free SHS policy is among the best initiatives in the country however a review of the policy will produce effective results.

According to him, the negative comments passed on by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and other pressure groups about the Free Senior High School policy calls for an urgent review of the implementation.

The NPP government in September 2017 introduced and implemented the Free SHS to give the opportunity to candidates who will be successful at BECE to have their secondary education fees absorbed by the government.
