2021 School reopening: JHS likely to run 2-semester instead of 3-term

A close source to Ghana Education Service has told Educationweb.com.gh that Junior High Schools when Akufo-Addo announce school reopening date will run 2-semester academic year system instead of the usual 3-term

The 2-semester academic year system according to the source will enable teachers to get more instructional or contact hours for teaching to recover loss contact time amid the outbreak of the novel coronavirus pandemic.

“We will likely switch from the 3-term to a two-semester academic year system for JHS, commencing January 2021, to enable more contact time for teaching”, the stakeholder in the education sector stated.

He added that students may end up having 44 weeks of schooling instead of the usual 36 weeks depending on the presumed school reopening date.

His Excellency Nana Akufo-Addo is however expected to officially announce when students will return back to school January this year to start the 2021/2022 academic year after 9 months of no schooling.
