The President of CHASS, Alhaji Yacoub A. B. Abubakar has described the alleged act of some Headmasters of Senior High Schools (SHSs) in the Ashanti Region exchanging Free SHS food items for cash as surprising.
Alhaji Abubakar speaking on Citi 97.3 FM’s ‘Eye Witness News’ show monitored by Educationweb.com.gh, however, urged for calm as saying consultations are underway with the Ghana Education Service (GES).
“Let me say this information has come as a big suprise to all of us, our members are agitated but we have calmed them and told them that our leadership are taking up the issue with the GES,” he told Umaru Sanda.
“I want to urge my colleague Headmasters to remain calm so that we wait for the Management of the GES to come out with the results of the investigations,” the Headmaster told the host of Citi FM’s Eye Witness News.
CHASS President’s comment comes after the Ghana Education Service (GES) asked the Ashanti Regional Education Director to present 53 Heads of Senior High School involved in the Free SHS food items for cash scandal.
The letter with the headline ‘Corruption in the implementation of Free SHS feeding programme’ has urged the office of the Director to co-operate and collaborate fully with the CID in carrying out the investigations.
According to the GES letter sighted by Educationweb.com.gh, Heads of top-rated schools like Prempeh College, Anglican SHS, KNUST SHS, Kumasi Girls’, and Afia Kobi SHS in the Ashanti Region are involved in the scandal.
