The Ministry of Communications and Digitalization (MoCD) has said Ghanaians from October 1, 2021, should link or re-register their Sim Card with Ghana Card. In this post, we will show you how to do that failing the shortcode *404#.
Ursula Owusu Ekufful speaking at a press briefing said the nationwide exercise to end mobile money fraud will last for a period of six months adding that any SIM card which not pre-registered before April 1, 2022, will be blocked.
“Barring any unforeseen eventualities, SIM Registration will begin on 1st October 2021 for a six (6) month period and end on 31st March 2022. Any sim which is not registered at the end of this exercise will be blocked,” she stated.
The Communications and Digitalization Minister said apart from existing subscribers linking or re-registering their Sim Cards with Ghana Card, a sim application App will also be launch in due course to speed up the process.
“The minimum age for SIM registration has been set at 15 years, taking into consideration the increased use of communications services since the onset of the COVID 19 pandemic and to facilitate E-education,” Ursula added.
According to the Ablekuma West Member of Parliament, Ghanaians can register a total number of 10 SIM cards across all networks and foreigners with a limit of 3 SIM cards across all networks in the country.
Explaining further the process of registration, Ursula said only the National Identity Card (Ghana Card) shall be used for the registration of SIM cards of citizens, foreign residents and foreigners staying in Ghana for more than 90 days.
How to re-register your Sim Card with Ghana Card using USSD
1. On your smartphone dial *404#
2. Enter your Ghana Card Pin (Enter letters and figures without the hyphens)
3. Confirm your Ghana Card Pin
4. Enter your Surname
5. Enter your First name
6. Enter your Date of Birth (DDMMYY)
7. Select Sex (Male or Female)
8. Confirm details
9. Submit details provided after confirmation
If the process is successful, you will get a confirmation message with a unique code, If unsuccessful due to wrong details, you have 3 attempts to answer security questions and If unsuccessful due to verification failure, NIA will contact you.
After receiving the confirmation message with a unique code, visit your service provider (agent or customer care) to complete the final part of linking or re-registering your Sim Card with Ghana Card before the April 2022 deadline.
