A total of 1,263,586 subscribers of various telecommunication networks as part of the sim-re-registration exercise as of October 7, 2021, have linked their Sim Card with their Ghana Card using the shortcode *404#, NCA announced today.
The Sim Card re-registration which began on October 1, 2021, and will last for a period of six months the Minister for Communication, Ursula Ursula Owusu has said form part of the government effort to end mobile money fraud.
Speaking at a press briefing monitored by EducationWeb.com.gh, the Digitalization Minister and Ablekuma West Member of Parliament said that any SIM card which not pre-registered before April 1, 2022, will be blocked.
“Barring any unforeseen eventualities, SIM Registration will begin on 1st October 2021 for a six (6) month period and end on 31st March 2022. Any sim which is not registered at the end of this exercise will be blocked,” she stated.
The Communications and Digitalization Minister said apart from existing subscribers linking or re-registering their Sim Cards with Ghana Card, a sim application App will also be launch in due course to speed up the process.
“The minimum age for SIM registration has been set at 15 years, taking into consideration the increased use of communications services since the onset of the COVID 19 pandemic and to facilitate E-education,” Ursula added.
According to the lawyer and Ablekuma West Member of Parliament, Ghanaians can register a total number of 10 SIM cards across all networks and foreigners with a limit of three (3) SIM cards across all networks in the country.
The National Communications Authority (NCA) in line with the Communications and Digitalization Ministry (MoCD) has urged all Ghanaians to re-register their Sim Cards with their Ghana Card before the April 2022 deadline.

2. Enter your Ghana Card Pin (Enter letters and figures without the hyphens)
3. Confirm your Ghana Card Pin
4. Enter your Surname
5. Enter your First name
6. Enter your Date of Birth (DDMMYY)
7. Select Sex (Male or Female)
8. Confirm details
9. Submit details provided after confirmation
If the process is successful, you will get a confirmation message with a unique code, If unsuccessful due to wrong details, you have 3 attempts to answer security questions and If unsuccessful due to verification failure, NIA will contact you.
After receiving the confirmation message with a unique code, visit your service provider (agent or customer care) to complete the final part of linking or re-registering your Sim Card with Ghana Card before the April 2022 deadline.
