Dr. Samuel Nii Noi Ashong, Technical Adviser at Ministry of Finance has said public sector workers including government teachers until 2024 will not get any form of salary increment adding that “the country is broke.”
The Adviser announced this on Wednesday contributing to a discussion on the budget organised by the Ghana National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GNCCI).
Dr Samuel Nii Noi Ashong in his address noted Ghanaians, particularly public sector workers should brace their belts as the spread of the locally transmitted coronavirus is expected to reduce somewhere in 2023.
According to him, the financial status of the country for the next few years will not permit the Akufo-Addo led government to consider a salary increment of public sector workers including public school teachers.
Dr Nii Noi Ashong said, “it is not a rosy picture and let’s call a spade a spade and so when people go on about saying we don’t need the taxes and government must give this and that, the reality is that we don’t have the money.” the Technical Adviser stated as quoted by MyJoyonline.com.
In a related development, President Nana Akufo-Addo Saturday in his May Day address said there will be no pay increment for himself, the Vice-President, Ministers, Deputies, and all appointees for the year 2021.
