Speaking to fellow Ghanaians in his 28th televised nation address monitored by EducationWeb, His Excellency said the wearing of face masks is not mandatory any longer but safety protocols including handwashing are required.

“From Monday, March 28, 2022, the wearing of face mask is no longer mandatory. I encourage all of you though to continue to maintain handwashing and avoid overcrowded gatherings,” President Akufo-Addo said on Sunday.

Mr Addo Dankwa continued that “all in-person activities such as church services, mosques, conferences, workshops, private parties, events, cinemas and theatres provided that the audience and all participants are fully vaccinated.”

As part of measures to ease coronavirus restriction, he directed that outdoor functions and sporting events, entertainment spots, political rallies and funerals could resume at full capacity provided participants are vaccinated.

The President of the Republic further indicated handwashing and hand sanitising points are to be made available at venues where events are held in full capacity for individuals vaccinated against the locally transmitted virus.

This year’s West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) and Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) for final Junior and Senior High School students will not be conducted under a strict face mask-wearing policy.

The management of the Ghana Education Service (GES) following the Covid-19 ease restrictions is expected to communicate further details regarding the administration of the forthcoming national and international examinations.

Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum, the Minister for Education has said GES at the appropriate time will communicate to students and the general public the date for the conduct of the 32nd edition of BECE for School in this academic year.
