May Day: Monday declared holiday to mark workers day

The Ministry of Interior under the auspices of the Government of Ghana (GoG) has declared Monday, May 3, 2021, as a statutory public holiday to mark May Day (Workers Day) to celebrate laborers in the country

The workers Day fell on Saturday, May 1 but Akufo-Addo by the Executive Instrument  (E.I), in accordance with Section  2 of the public holidays and Commemorative Days Act, (Act 601) declared May 3 an additional holiday.

“In view of the fact that 1st May 2021  falls on a Saturday, the President of Ghana, has by Executive Instrument (E.I), in accordance with Section 2 of the Public Holidays and Commemorative  Days Act, (Act 601) declared Monday, 3rd May 2021,” the Interior Ministry stated in a blog post.

Ghanaians following the additional public holiday have been urged to take notice and observe the holidays as such throughout the country with strict adherence to the coronavirus protocols outlined by the Health Ministry.
