Parliament approves former Education Minister as Energy Minister

The NDC’s Appointment Committee of Parliament has unanimously approved Ghana’s former Education Minister, Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh as Minister of Energy, a source has told Educationweb.com.gh

Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh popularly known as NAPO approval comes after the His Excellency Nana Akufo-Addo early this year in his second term government appointed him as the Minister of Energy-designate.

The Manhyia South Member of Parliament prior to his new appointment served as the Minister of Education from 2017 to late December 2021.

It was during his tenure in office as the Education Minister the Akufo-Addo led government introduced the popular Free Senior High School (Free SHS) policy to absorb school fees of candidates who pass BECE each year.

The leadership of the National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS) following the former Education Minister, Dr Matthew Opoku enormous contribution in the education sector since 2017 has conferred him ‘Dr Free SHS’.

The immediate past Minister of Education was vetted on February 11, 2021, as Energy Minister-designate by the Ministers Appointment Committee.
