MOC partners Huawei to organize tertiary Girls in ICT program

The Ministry of Communications and Digitalisation (MOC) has collaborated with Chinese multinational technology company, Huawei to organize a tertiary edition of its flagship Girls in ICT program from September 20 to 28, 2021.

Ursula Owusu Ekufful, the Minister for Communications and Member of Parliament for Ablekuma West Constitneucn who announced this in a post sighted by EdcuationWeb.com.gh said the program will take place at AITI-KACE, Accra.

She said participants from the University Students Association of Ghana (USAG) will be taken through a 5-day training programme in Artificial Intelligence, Big Data, Cloud Service, Cyber Security, Internet of Things and Data Storage.

According to the Digitalization Minister, there will be a career guidance session for girls in tertiary schools who will participate in the 10-days 2021 tertiary edition of its flagship Girls in ICT program slated for September this year.

The Communications Ministry September 15, 2021 ended the 2021 edition of basic school Girls In ICT after 15 year old Asantewaa Fauchie from Sefwi Kofikrom D/A JHS in the Juaboso District was adjudged winner of the ICT program

Fauchie according to the Digitalisation Minister was the best out of a thousand girls who competed in the just ended program. For her prize, 15 year old Fauchie received cash of 2000 Ghana Cedis, a laptop and a plaque.

She in her address said the Girls in ICT initiative has been a major platform that has brought change to my life and that of my colleagues adding that the program has created the opportunity for many who have not had such.

“GICT has been a major platform that has brought change to my life and that of my colleagues. myself and my friends have been taken through intensive training in Coding which involves Scratch, HTML among others,” Asantewaa said.

The Sefwi Kofikrom D/A JHS pupil expressed gratitude to the Ministry for the life-changing opportunity. “I had an interaction with some new friends who indicated that this was their first time seeing computers and touching them.”
