Candidates who sat for the just-ended October teacher licensure examination have been asking EducationWeb if the National Teaching Council just like the September GTLE will lower the pass mark for the second phase of the test.

Their question comes after the Minister for Education after the conduct of the first phase of the Ghana teacher licensure examination disclosed the Teaching Council lowered the cut-off point to enable more candidates to pass.

“I don’t want to talk about the Ghana teacher licensure examination pass mark which was set for the May 2021 licensure examination, it was brought so low that yet some candidates did not beat the cut,” Adutwum stated.

But, speaking to EducationWeb.com.gh on Monday, the deputy spokesman for the Ministry of Education said he is not sure whether the Council (NTC) this time will lower the pass mark expected by candidates who sat for the exams.

Meanwhile, the deputy minister for Education, Reverend Ntim Fordjour has expressed hope that graduate teachers who sat for the second phase of the 2021 Ghana teacher licensure examination (GTLE) will pass with flying colours.

The Reverend Minister during his visit to some designated licensure exams centres said it is mandatory for any Ghanaian who want to become a professional teacher to sit for the licensure exams and pass to be licensed.

“Teaching is an important profession and the government is much concerned about the standard of teachers, we are ending the 2021 licensure exams today and we hope that the candidates will get their desired grades,” he stated.

The deputy Education Minister said the national teacher licensure examination is to ensure qualified teachers are posted to various classrooms across the country to teach Ghanaian children and not to deny teachers postings.

The Registrar of the National Teaching Council (NTC), Dr Christian Addai Poku on his part also said he believes all the prospective candidates who sat for the October 2021 national teacher licensure examination will pass.

Dr Addai Poku indicated his outfit is committed to licensing teachers from various teacher training institutions including private school teachers in the country to become professional teachers to teach in the classroom.

The second phase of the 2021 licensure examination was earlier scheduled to be administered in mid-September but was postponed to October 25 and 26, 2021 due to circumstances the Teaching Council said is beyond their control.
