The immediate past Education Minister, Dr Matthew Prempeh last year disclosed the Ghana Education Service has decided not to promote all GES teachers who went for post-graduate without permission from the Service.
Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh speaking on the Accra-based Peace 104.3 FM’s KoKrokoo show monitored by Educationweb.com.gh said many of the teachers went for post-graduate and others without seeking permission.
NAPO noted some GES teachers even though asked for permission but did courses not in relation to what they teach in school.
The Manhyia South Member of Parliament suggested they could have done their masters in the subject or course they were employed to teach.
“You teach French in your school but when you went for MBA, you did MBA in finance”, he told Sefa Kayi adding that “the Management of the Ghana Education Service (GES) on this basis can not promote a teacher”.
“So the Ghana Education Service like everybody else’s business will find it difficult to promote such teachers automatically”, Dr Matthew stressed.
The former Minister for Education, however, indicated all teachers who sought permission from the Education Service have duly been promoted.
