A candidate when asked to do SHS self-placement does not mean he or she did not perform well in the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE), a staff of the Ghana Education Service (GES) has told Educationweb.com.gh.
The GES official in an interview with Educationweb.com.gh said this happens when a BECE candidate is not successful in securing placement in any of his or her five choices selected during the school selection process.
“SHS Self-placement is a process that gives such candidates an opportunity to go into the Computerized School Selection & Placement System to select from schools with available vacancies,” she told Okyere Darko George.
How to do 2020 BECE SHS Self-Placement
1. Visit the CSSPS website cssps.org or cssps.gov.gh
3. Enter your Index number
4. Choose your residential preference (i.e Day or Boarding).
a. If a candidate selects Boarding, all schools with boarding vacancies will be displayed.
b. If a candidate selects Day, then there will be a drop-down menu for
the candidate to select:
i. Day within catchment area; or
ii. Day outside the catchment area
Features of SHS Self-Placement
i. Only Schools with available vacancies will be displayed on the portal.
ii. Schools with vacancies will be displayed for candidates to choose based on their aggregate.
iii. Schools shown will have their location and residential options available.
iv. A candidate can change schools as many times as possible depending on available spaces. The changes CEASE immediately a candidate enrols in a school.
Self-placement will be a good option for a student in the urban area but not for a student in the rural area due to internet connection and availability of resources for the nationwide process.
