We’re seeking clearance to recruit private CoE teachers – MoE

The Minister for Education, Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum says the Ministry of Education and the Ghana Education Service (GES) are seeking clearance to recruit trained teachers from various private Colleges of Education in the country.

Speaking in an interview with Kumasi-based OTEC FM monitored by EducationWeb.com.gh, the Education Minister said the government is committed to employing newly trained private Colleges of Education teachers into service.

He indicated that his outfit has petitioned the Ministry of Finance (MoF) to increase the number of newly trained Colleges of Education teachers to be recruited into service for the 2021 academic year per the financial clearance.

Asked if the 16,000 newly trained teachers to be recruited by the Ghana Education Service (GES) before December 31, 2021, will cover trainees from private Colleges of Education, Dr Yaw Adutwum said his outfit is considering them.

“We have now received the figure of teachers to recruit this year and we have petitioned the Ministry of Finance to increase the numbers, we are working on that for them to be recruited in due course,” the Minister said on Monday.

In a related development, the Ministry of Finance has granted the Ghana Education Service (GES) under the auspices of the Ministry of Education (MoE) financial clearance to recruit more than 16,000 newly trained teachers this year.

“Financial clearance is hereby granted to the Minister for Education to enable the Director-General of Ghana Education Service (GES) to recruit sixteen thousand, eight hundred and fifty (16,850) newly trained teachers for the service

Approval is also granted for their emolument to be charged against the compensation of Employees vote of the Ministry of Education in the 2020 budget,” a statement signed by the Deputy Minister for Finance stated.

It continued “the Director-General of GES is to ensure that the new teachers have their documents processed in time and placed on mechanized payroll to enable the Controller and Accountant General to work on their payment.”

The Finance Ministry said the effective date of the appointment should not be earlier than December 1, 2021, adding that the financial clearance granted to the Ministry expires end of December and cannot be used thereafter.
