WAEC strong room is believed to be a place or a secret room where all this year’s WASSCE or BECE examination question papers are kept before been delivered or distributed to various depots across the country.
But, a staff of the Council has said the strong room even though is used for the above-stated purpose but is managed by a group of persons including personnel from the Ghana Police Service and not an individual.
The WAEC official comment comes after 2019 WASSCE core Mathematics question leaked from the WAEC’s strong room, a place the Examinations Council has indicated question papers are kept under strict security.
Mrs Wendy E. Addy-Lamptey, the Head of National Office – WAEC, speaking to the media at a Press Conference monitored by Educationweb.com.gh admitted her outfit has a strong room but no individual is in charge.
She noted that those in charge of the room are personnel from Ghana Police Service, WAEC security and the officer in charge of operations adding that to enter the WAEC strong room, a person would have to enter a code.
According to the Head of National Office -WAEC, the room usually has two doors, “the second door has the safety lock, so one individual is unable to get into the room by his or her self”, she told Journalist.
Mrs Addy-Lamptey furthered said apart from the WAEC strong room, the Examinations Council has depots where printed question papers in security bags with combination locks are kept before sent to the various centres.
“So when we get close to the examination, we move the question papers from the strong room to the depot across the country and two officers also control them, that is GES officials and the WAEC staff”
