WAEC releases regional breakdown of 2021 BECE candidates

The Management of the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) as the 2021 BECE for School ends today Friday, November 19, 2021, has published the regional breakdown of candidates who participated in the national examination.

According to the statistics sighted by EducationWeb.com.gh, Ashanti Region provided the majority of the candidates who sat for the just-ended BECE for School followed by the Greater Accra Region and Upper East with the lowest.

A total of 571,894 final year Junior High School (JHS) students made up of 287,605 boys and 284,289 girls from 18,028 Junior High Schools (Private and Public) sat for the national examination at 2,158 centres across the country.

About 2,158 supervisors, 20,124 invigilators and 1,853 Assistant supervisors were contracted by WAEC to oversee the administration of the 2021 edition of the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) for School Candidates.

The Management of the Ghana Education Service (GES) says the prospective candidates after the conduct of the Basic Certificate examination will commence the selection of their preferred Senior High Schools (SHS).

Parents of candidates as part of measures to ensure the smooth placement of qualified 2021 BECE for School candidates have been encouraged by the GES to take a keen interest in the school selection and placement process.

The Education Service is yet to communicate the date and details for the 2021 academic year selection of schools and placement to students, relevant stakeholders and members of the general public.
