Announcing the release of the provisional results of February 28, 2022, the non-profit-making organization (WAEC) said the subject and entire results of some candidates have been cancelled for the involvement in exams malpractice.

In a blog post sighted by EducationWeb, the Council said the subject results of 138 candidates have been cancelled for the offence of either bringing in foreign materials into the examination hall or colluding with other candidates.

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) also indicated the entire results of 46 Junior High School (JHS) students were cancelled for the offence of either sending mobile phones into the examination hall or impersonation.

“The subject Results of 148 candidates and the Entire Results of 109 candidates pending the conclusion of investigations into various cases of alleged examination malpractice,” the organization said on its official website.

Explaining the symbols and their interpretation on the WAEC statement of results, the Examinations Council said X indicates absence, C means cancelled, P for pending and W for withheld (investigation into cases of malpractice).

A total of 572,167 candidates representing 287,730 males and 284,437 females sat for the national examination. Among the registered candidates, 61 had visual impairment and 321 were identified with hearing impairment.

2021 BECE for School students whose subject or entire results were cancelled or are pending have been cautioned to desist from result upgrading, a process the Council on several occasions has said it does not do and is illegal.

“The Council is cautioning all stakeholders to be wary of fraudsters who promise to upgrade results for a fee.  Candidates are to note that WAEC results are secured and can be authenticated,” the Council said on Monday.
