The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) at its 69th Annual Council Meeting this year has unanimously chosen Professor Ato Essuman as the 20th Chairman of the sub-regional organisation for a period of three years.
Professor Ato Essuman, the newly appointed Chairman who would serve from March 2021 to March 2024 replaces Baboucarr Bouy from the Gambia who was appointed in March 2018 to head the sub-regional organisation.
The Examinations Council at the meeting similarly elected the Director-General of the Ghana Education Service, Professor Kwasi-Opoku Amankwa as the Vice-Chairman of the Examinations Council until March 2022.
Students, teachers, schools, officials of the ministries of education, parents, security agencies, service providers and other relevant stakeholders who had contributed to the successes of WAEC were commended at the meeting.
The special guest of honour, President Akufo-Addo in his address at the 69th ceremony expressed delight over the outstanding performance of the first batch of Free SHS beneficiaries in the 2020 WASSCE despite covid-19.
His Excellency Nana Akufo-Addo announced the government through the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) will this year introduce new measures to curb cases of examination malpractice in 2021 WASSCE.
