Villanova University is a private Catholic research university in Villanova, Pennsylvania. It was founded by the Augustinians in 1842 and named after Saint Thomas of Villanova.

The university is the oldest Catholic university in Pennsylvania and one of two Augustinian institutions in the United States (The other being Merrimack College).

It is classified among “R2: Doctoral Universities – High research activity”.

The university traces its roots to the old Saint Augustine’s Church, Philadelphia, which the Augustinian friars of the Province of Saint Thomas of Villanova founded in 1796, and to its parish school, Saint Augustine’s Academy, which was established in 1811.

Acceptance Rate

Villanova University admissions is most selective with an acceptance rate of 25% and an early acceptance rate of 20.4%. Half the applicants admitted to Villanova have an SAT score between 1350 and 1490 or an ACT score of 31 and 34. However, one-quarter of admitted applicants achieved scores above these ranges, and one-quarter scored below these ranges.

  • For some candidates whose prior academic coursework may not reflect their current ability, they may be asked to participate in an admissions interview. An interview can provide the admission committee with additional perspective about your potential fit at Villanova, and allow you to learn more about The College of Professional Studies in the process. 

GPA

The average GPA at Villanova is 3.86. (Most schools use a weighted GPA out of 4.0, though some report an unweighted GPA. With a GPA of 3.86, Villanova requires you to be near the top of your class, and well above average.
