The National Union of Ghana Students after the West African Exams Council on Wednesday said it has withheld results of some candidates who sat for 2021 WASSCE has called on tertiary institutions to extend application deadline.
WAEC in a blog post said the entire results of 3,667 candidates have been withheld pending the conclusion of investigations into various cases of exams malpractice detected during and after the conduct of the examination.
It also disclosed a total number of 1,339 subject results and 174 entire results have been cancelled for various examination malpractices such as bringing foreign material including mobile phones into the examination hall.
But, the Students Union following the suspended results has urged Management of various tertiary institutions to consider the WAEC investigation and extended the deadline for applicants to submit applications for enrolment.
NUGS in a statement copied to EducationWeb.com.gh petitioned the non-profit-making organization (WAEC) to speed up the investigation process to release the results of candidates not found guilty of examination malpractice.
“We wish to suggest to WAEC that all investigation relating to examination malpractice should be fully dealt with before results are being released subsequently,” the leadership of the National Union of Ghana Students stated.
In a related development, the Management of the University of Ghana, Legon (UG) says its application portal will remain open from Wednesday, December 8, 2021, and close December 10, 2021, at 4:00 pm.
“Following the release of WASSCE results, the UG application portal will remain open from December 8 and close December 10, 2021, to allow applicants to make changes to information on their application,” it said on Wednesday.
The Authorities of the Accra-based University of Professional Studies (UPSA) later yesterday also announced on various social media platforms the extension of their application deadline to Friday, December 17, 2021.
“This comes to inform all WASSCE candidates whose results have just been released that applications for admission into various undergraduate and diploma programmes at the UPSA for the 2021/2022 academic year are still open.”
