UG gives date for end of semester exams after UTAG suspend strike

The University of Ghana, Legon after the University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG) directed members to end strike action has said it will from August 25, 2021, commence the end of semester examination for students.

The Director of the Academic Affairs Directorate of the University of Ghana (UG) Lydia Anowa Nyako-Danquah, disclosed this in a statement to the University community sighted by EducationWeb.com.gh.

“Following the notice from UTAG of the suspension of the withdrawal of teaching and related activities by members, it has been decided by the Business and Executive Committee that the main examinations for the Second Semester of the 2020/2021 Academic Year (Level 100 and 400 batches) should resume from Wednesday, August 25th, 2021.”

The Management of the Legon earlier scheduled to commence the end of semester examinations for the level 100 and 400 batches on August 7, but later postponed the dates after the UTAG declared a nationwide strike on August 2.

UTAG in a statement to members on various campuses directed them to withdraw all teaching and related activities including examination, invigilation, marking of examination scripts, processing of examination results.

The Teachers Association on behalf of the National Executive Committee (NEC) in a statement said members of the University Teachers Association of Ghana on various campuses are to comply with the directive until further notice.

But, the leadership of the University Teachers Association of Ghana has asked members to resume academic activities immediately as it continues negotiations with the central government over better conditions of service.
