UEW awards NAPO doctorate degree for successful Free SHS

Former Minister of Education and current Energy Minister, Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh Wednesday was bestowed with an honorary doctorate degree by the University of Education, Winneba (UEW) at a special congregation ceremony.

Dr Matthew Prempeh was awarded the doctorate degree for his enormous contribution to education in the country as well as making successful the implementation of the Free Senior High School (Free SHS) policy introduced in 2017.

Posting on social media, the Manhyia South Member of Parliament commended President Akufo-Addo for giving him the opportunity to serve as Ghana’s Education Minister from 2017 to late 2020

“If there is one person who made this morning’s award possible, it is President Akufo-Addo. I thank him for giving me the opportunity and for having confidence in me,” NAPO stated in the post sighted by EducationWeb.com.gh.

According to NAPO, the Free SHS program has come to stay and will continue to see successful candidates at the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) have their secondary education free of charge.

“Free SHS has come to stay, and with it, the promise of opportunities for all of our children, and ultimately, a huge boost in Ghana’s human resource base. I am confident that its challenges shall be surmounted,” he stated.
