The University of Cape Coast (UCC) Saturday, May 29, 2021, will honour President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo a doctorate degree for his contribution to the education sector and introducing the Free Senior High School (Free SHS) program.
This comes after a letter to the Ministry of Education signed on behalf of the Secretary to the President, Mercy Debrah-Karikari and sighted by EducationWeb.com.gh accepted conferment of the Honorary Degree.
“With reference to your correspondence No. DA 462/471/01 dated 30th April, 2021, bearing on the above subject matter, I write to inform you that the President of the Republic has accepted the decision by the Council of the University of Cape Coast to confer on him the degree of Doctor of Philosophy in Educational Leadership (Honoris Causa) at a Special Congregation to be held on Saturday, 29th May, 2021 at 10 am at the University of Cape Coast,” the letter stated.
The Nana Akufo-Addo led government in September 2017 introduced the Free SHS policy to enable candidates who become succesful at the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) to access secondary education for free.
In a related development, immediate past Education Minister, Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh on Wednesday, May 26, 2021, will be honoured with a doctorate degree by the University of Education, (UEW) for his support at the Ministry of Education.
UEW in a blog post sighted by EducationWeb.com.gh said the special congregation ceremony for the award of honorary doctorate degree will take place at Jophus Anamuah-Mensah Conference Centre, North Campus, Winneba.
