The Students Representative Council of the University of Cape Coast (UCC) after some online news portals reported the SRC executives have spent GH¢63,157 to build a shed that cost less than GH¢7,000 has said the claim is false.
In a statement copied to EducationWeb.com.gh, the University of Cape Coast SRC said no such project costing the estimated amount quoted by the various Ghanaian blogs and news outlets has been undertaken on or off-campus.
“The UCC SRC and local NUGS of the University of Cape Coast categorically deny this slanderous report and absolve themselves and their leaders of any culpability for it,” the Students Representative Council stated in the release.
The Students Council added that “We would like to state unequivocally that no such project amounting to GH¢63,157 has been executed and that the news item is a ploy to tarnish the good name of the UCC SRC and local NUGS.
According to the SRC, executives of the Council are currently consulting the university’s legal counsel to determine the course of action on the false allegations levelled against the Cape Coast-based public university.
“We asked that all students maintain their confidence in the SRC and local National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS) as we have their best interest at heart,” the statement signed by the SRC President Christopher Dadson said.
The leadership of the National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS) is yet to comment on the issue.
