Describing as haste GES decision to conduct the national standardised examination on Friday, December 17, 2021, IFEST said the extension of the academic calendar is needless and will inconvenience teachers, parents and the pupils.

“We wish to advise the MoE and GES to suspend the conduct of the NST in its current form to a later date in January. This will enable teachers adequate time to orient the pupils on all aspects of the test,” the Studies said in a statement.

It said the NST is supposed to be a diagnostic test aimed at identifying the extent of learning poverty and also identify if the set standards in the standard-based curriculum are being achieved and not to inconvenience students.

The Education Studies has therefore in a statement copied to EducationWeb.com.gh called for the administration of the forthcoming national primary four students examination to be suspended this year and be conducted in 2022.

“We wish to advise the MoE and GES to suspend the conduct of the NST in its current form to a later date in January. This will enable teachers adequate time to orient the pupils on all aspects of the test,” the Institute stated in its release.

IFEST further added, “It must be stated that the Ministry of Education and the Ghana Education Service will be held responsible by all other stakeholders if things go wrong if they do not heed to this cautioning.”

In a related development, the Ghana National Council of Private Schools (GNACOPS) have reached an agreement with the Ministry of Education for private school students to be included in the conduct of the test next academic year.

GNACOPS Tuesday told EducationWeb they have had a series of meetings on the standard assessment with MoE and have concluded that from the next academic year, NSAT 2022 will cover all both the public and private sector schools.

As it stands now, this pilot assessment whose focus is on the basic 4 class is for only public schools. NSAT 2022 and beyond will however focus on classes 2, 4, & 6” the Executive Director for the Council, Mr Gyetuah said yesterday.
