SSNIT to punish gov’t teachers who fail to merge their Ghana Card

Contributors including public teachers who refuse to merge their SSNIT numbers with their Ghana Card before January 2022 will legally forfeit their pension benefits, SSNIT Director-General, Dr John Ofori-Tenkorang has said.

The merging of the SSNIT ID with the Ghana Card according to the Director-General of the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) will continue until December 31, 2021.

Explaining the importance and benefits of merging the two identification numbers, the Trust official said the integration will help fast track adjudication processes, enabling prompt settlement of claims

“This means that from January 1 2022, SSNIT contributors will no longer use their scheme numbers but will transact all business with SSNIT with their Ghana Card,” Dr John Ofori stated in an interview monitored by EducationWeb.com.gh.

The merger SSNIT say is in complies with Regulation 7 (1) of the National Identity Register Regulations, 2012, L.I. 2111 and a directive from the National Pensions Regulatory Authority (NPRA).

How to merge your SSNIT ID with your Ghana Card

1. On your mobile phone dial the shortcode *711*9#

2. Select option 1

3. Enter your SSNIT Number

4. Enter your email address (if the phone number you are using is different from your phone number registered in our database)

5. Enter the Personal ID Number on your Ghana Card

6. Select option 1 to complete the merging of your SSNIT and the NIA numbers (Personal ID Number on your Ghana Card).

You will after the successful process receive a notification of completion of the merger.

  1. I have received massage that my NIA and SSNIT has been merged. Do I still need to do the merging again?
