Different vacation dates have been detected for SHS 1 Single Track students in the new Ghana Education Service SHS calendar intended to correct an earlier error, the Executive Director of Africa Education Watch has reported
According to the SHS calendar sighted by Educationweb.com.gh, first-year students in double-track schools will vacate on June 15, 2021, but in the same calendar, SHS 1 students in Singletrack schools will vacate June 16.
The Education Service after postponing the school reopening date of final year SHS students released the revised SHS calendar to Heads of Senior High Schools (SHSs) to be communicated to students and parents.
“Heads of SHSs running double-track for first-year students are to as a matter of urgency communicate to parents about the designated tracks for their wards,” the Ghana Education Service (GES) stated in a release.
But, Mr. Kofi Asare, the Executive Director of Education Think Tank, Africa Education Watch after a thorough scrutiny of the new SHS calendar has detected two vacation dates for the SHS 1 Single Track students.
“The GES’ latest change in SHS calendar, which was intended to correct an earlier error, rather gave two different vacation dates for SHS 1 Single Track students (15th June and 16th July),” the policy analyst stated.
The Education Economist following the confusing dates has asked the Management of the Ghana Education Service which of the two dates are the real vacation date for the first-year students in single track schools.
“So, which is which, and when will this comedy of errors end?” he asked.
