The Child Right advocate in a statement copied to EducationWeb said the above-mentioned percentage of placement slots into ‘Category A’ Senior High Schools reserved for only public school students is discriminatory and unfair.

“It looks as if there is a grand scheme by Ghana Education Service (GES) to weaken private education because of their quality education success at the pre-tertiary which many Ghanaians believe and support strongly,” the Institute stated.

The educational multipurpose-based corporate entity, also indicated it believes the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has infringed on the rights of private school students by marking down their 2021 BECE for School scripts.

ICD said for this unfortunate incident, the majority of private school owners across the country vehemently have expressed their displeasure on the outcome of the BECE results demanding the remarking of the candidates’ scripts.

“9 out of 10 of private schools we spoke to on the 2021 BECE expectation believe their candidates were marked down or there have been a massaged of private schools results to favour public schools,” the Child Institute noted.

Following the school placement discriminatory and rigid marking of private schools’ BECE scripts, ICD says a legal team has been constituted to challenge the constitutionality of the 30% SHS placement slot for public schools at court.

“This is to make sure that no Ghanaian child is discriminated against: whether from the private or public establishment, race, origin, colour gender, status and socio-economic background,” the Child Institute said in its press statement.

To support the legal action, private school stakeholders and concerned citizens have been asked to support the lawsuit against the Ghana Education Service (GES) financially or the fair and equal treatment of the private school child.

“All contributions should be channelled through Institute of Child Development (ICD) MoMo account number 059 739 3781 using the names of your school, organizations or individual as a reference,” the ICD has urged the general public.
