The public school calendar for the 2022 academic year within this week will be made public to relevant stakeholders, students members of the general public, the Public Relations Officer for the Ministry of Education has disclosed.
Kwasi Kwarteng in an interview monitored by EducationWeb.com.gh on Monday said the school calendar committee last week Thursday submitted a final draft of their document to the Minister for Education, Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum.
Asked if the delay in the release of the 2022 academic calendar will not affect the studies of students, the Education Ministry spokesperson said even though the calendar has been delayed but it is in the best interest of students.
“What the Education Minister has done is to now set the clarity, so that the inconsistencies and of course the discrepancies in our academic calendar, that we have been witnessing, will be a thing of the past,” he stated.
The MoE spokesman indicated that the school calendar committee set up by the Minister in charge of Education is chaired by the Deputy Education Minister, Ntim Fordjour and representatives from NaCCA, GES and TVET service.
“The committee had met, of course, under the leadership of the Deputy Minister, Rev. Ntim Fordjour. Just last Thursday, they finalised the draft document of their work,” Kwasi Kwarteng told the host of Joy NewsNight.
The soon to be released academic year calendar the Ministry of Education (MoE) spokesperson said is not for only the 2021/2022 academic calendar, but that of 2022/2023 and 2023/2024 to set clarity and avoid future changes.
“We’re very hopeful that within this week, the final report will come out so that we’ll have clarity on the academic calendar, i.e. reopening and closing for all schools in the pre-tertiary category,” Mr Emmanuel Kwarteng stated.
Meanwhile, the leadership of the Ghana National Council of Private Schools (GNACOPS) has confirmed private schools across the country Tuesday, January 11, 2022, will reopen school to commence academic activities for the 2022 year.
Mr Enoch Kwasi Gyetuah, the National Executive Director of the Private School Council Monday assured parents adequate measures have been put in place to ensure the safety of their wards as they return to school on Tuesday.
“Private school students after the April 22, 2022 vacation will reopen school on May 9, 2022, to commence the second term and vacate again on August 19, 2022. They will reopen on September 7, 2022, to start the third term,” he stated.
