The Deputy spokesperson for the Ministry of Education, Mr Yaw Opoku Mensah after the Ghana Education Service said basic schools will vacate on December 17 has said public Junior High Schools are excluded from the Friday vacation.

The Management of the Ghana Education Service (GES) Tuesday indicated that all public basic schools from Kindgatern to Junor High School will vacate on December 17, 2021, after the administration of the standardised exams.
In a post sighted by EducationWeb.com.gh, the Service said the vacation date has been extended to December 17, 2021. “Please note that all Public Basic Schools ( KG-JHS) will vacate on the 17th of December 2021,” it added.
But, Mr Opoku Mensah speaking to EducationWeb on Wednesday said only government primary schools after the conduct of the national standardised test for primary four students will vacate on Friday, December 17, 2021.
“Junior High Schools are to maintain the original date for vacation. Only primary schools are to vacate on Friday, December 17, 2021, the same date scheduled for the conduct of the national standardised test,” he told EducationWeb
The first edition of the National standardised test to be conducted by the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) on Friday, December 17, 2021, is to reduce improve learning outcomes and reduce learning poverty among students.
The forthcoming national test according to the Minister for Education, Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum will be administered to only students in primary four this year and later to primary 2 and 6 pupils when the next academic year start in 2022.
Mr Enoch Kwasi Gyetuah, the National Executive Director for the Ghana National Council of Private Schools (GNACOPS) has also said private school students in the next academic year will participate in the 2022 standardised examination.
He Tuesday told EducationWeb his outfit has reached an agreement with the Ministry of Education (MoE) for students in various private schools across the country to sit for the test that seeks to improve Ghana’s education system.
“We have had a series of meetings on this standard assessment with the Ministry of Education (MoE) and have concluded that from the next academic year, NSAT 2022 will cover all Schools in both the public and private sector.
As it stands now, this pilot assessment whose focus is on the basic 4 class is for only public schools. NSAT 2022 and beyond will however focus on classes 2, 4, & 6” the Executive Director for the Council told EducationWeb.com.gh.
