PRINCOF to sell 2022/23 teacher training admission form

The 2022/2023 teacher training admission forms for applicants seeking to pursue teacher education will be available for sale from March this year, the Conference of Principals of public Colleges of Education (PRINCOF) has announced.

“The Management of the Principals of Colleges of Education wishes to inform the public especially interested applicants that Colleges of Education admission forms will be available for sale in March,” PRINCOF said in a release.

To qualify for teacher training admission, the National Conference say applicants must have A1-C6 in three core subjects thus; English Language, Mathematics and Integrated Science and three credit passes in elective subjects.

According to the National Conference of Principals of the Colleges, interested applicants with SSCE certificates who had obtained A-D in three core subjects can also apply to be considered for the 2022/2023 teacher training admission.

Sold for GHC170.000 for the 2021/2022 academic year, the National Conference is yet to communicate to students and the public the cost of the 2022/2023 Colleges of Education admission form. We however expect a slight increase.

The public Colleges of Education (CoE) admission forms will be available for sale this academic year at various branches of the Ghana Commercial Bank. The admission form can be accessed by dialling the short code *924*8#.

In a related development, the National Teaching Council (NTC) has said WASSCE graduates will sit for an entrance examination dubbed the Ghana Basic Education Skills Examination Test (GBEST) before being granted admission.

Scheduled to be administered in August this year, the Registrar of the Teaching Council, Dr Christian Addai Poku in a discussion monitored by EducationWeb said prospective students will be accessed on numeracy and literacy.

“The GBEST will, thus, be used as the entry assessment for the trainee teachers and after completion, the students will be made to write a level and subject-based licensure examination to be qualified as professional teachers,” he stated.

The College entrance examination, Mr Addai Poku says forms part of reforms being proposed by the Council to harmonise teacher education admissions and also improve on teacher education as part of the educational reforms.

  1. If the entrance examination test is will be introduced then students who had pass marks in 0ne or two of the core subjects should be given the opportunity to apply, so that they could also sit for the GBEST to help them prove their pass marks in the core subjects. This is because some of them are very intelligent that is only the core subjects that deny them the opportunity to apply for a College of Education, for they have the desire to become trained teachers to provide their service to the state. So GES & MoE should address these issues for a lot of SHS graduates are still at home and had nothing to do for the fear to write Nov/Dec
