Pass BECE and enjoy Free SHS/TVET – Nana Addo tells candidates

President of the Republic, Akufo-Addo following the ongoing 2021 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) for School has encouraged candidates to pass the national examination to enjoy Free SHS or TVET.

In a post sighted by EducationWeb.com.gh, His Excellency said “make Ghana proud with the quality of your results and remember all the times that Free Senior High School and Technical Vocational Education Training awaits you next year.”

The Vice-President of Ghana, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia also in his goodwill message to the candidates said “I wish students writing the BECE this week all the best. May your hard work be rewarded and success is your portion.”

A total of 571,894 prospective candidates representing  287,605 boys and 284,289 girls from 18,028 public and private Junior High Schools (JHSs) across the country are sitting for the 31st edition of the BECE at 2,158 exams centres.

According to the West African Examinations Council (WAEC), 2,158 supervisors, 20,124 invigilators and 1,853 Assistant supervisors will be associated with the conduct of the BECE for School scheduled to end on Friday, November 19, 2021.

264,750 students of the 571,894 candidates the National Executive Director for Ghana National Council of Private Schools (GNACOPS), Mr Enoch Gyetuah has said are from more than 5,000 private Junior High Schools in the country.

Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum, the Minister for Education Monday said his outfit, the Ghana Education Service and West African Examinations Council and security agencies are working hand in hand to ensure smooth conduct of the exams.

“Let me assure you that my Ministry is working hand-in-hand with Ghana Education Service, WAEC, and the Security Services to ensure smooth and peaceful exams at all the 2,158 designated centres,” the Education Minister stated.

He further said all successful candidates who qualify for placement in any public Senior High or vocational schools would enjoy the Free SHS or Free Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET).

The 2021 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) for School which commenced on Monday with Social Studies Paper 1&2 will end with Information and Communication Technology Paper 1&2 on Friday, November 19, 2021.
