The Minister of Education, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum has said even though Senior High School (SHS) education under the Akufo-Addo led government is free but parents who wish to donate to schools are allowed to do so.
Dr. Adutwum in an interview with the Accra-based UTV monitored by Educationweb.com.gh said his earlier statement “that parents who want to pay fees for their wards are free to do so” was interpreted by some people.”
According to the Education Minister, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government introduced the Free SHS policy to ensure all Ghanaian students irrespective of status continue second cycle education free of charge.
“The Free SHS is a good policy and we are already reaping the benefits. The President made it clear that everyone irrespective of the wealth of your parents should enjoy free education. There is no discrimination,” he stated.
Dr. Adutwum continued that “the fact that Free SHS has come to stay does not mean you can’t help or donate to school your child attends. SHS is free but if you want to help the government will welcome it and applaud you.”
