The National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS) following Dr Matthew Opoku prempeh’s enormous contribution to the Free Senior High School policy has declared him Dr Free SHS as end term as Ghana’s Education Minister.
President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo in 2017 appointed the Manhyia South Member of Parliament Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh widely known as NAPO to head the Ministry of Education as the Education Minister.
It was in the same year Nana Akufo-Addo introduced the much-criticized Free Senior High School (Free SHS) policy, an initiative some Ghanaians including the main opposition NDC party said would not be possible.
But, the National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS) Tuesday, February 2, 2021, honoured the immediate past Education Minister with a citation commending him for his vast contribution to the Free SHS programme.
According to NUGS, if not for the Free Senior High School (Free SHS) programme many students who are currently in various Senior High Schools (SHS) would otherwise not be able to access secondary education.
The Students Union, for this reason, yesterday confer the former Education Minister on the status of ‘Dr Free SHS’, which NAPO wholeheartedly accept.
Dr Matthew Opoku following the presentation expressed deep appreciation for the kind gesture by NUGS citing that the Akufo-Addo government came into office in 2017 as evangelists to preach their manifesto.
