The National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS) has expressed disappointment in the Akufo-Addo led NPP party for voting against Hon. Ayariga’s motion to suspend the payment of tertiary fees by students
NUGS in a statement copied to Educationweb.com.gh said it expected the 8th Parliament to accept the petition to mitigate the burden of parents and students amid the negative effect of the novel coronavirus on the economy.
“We were also hoping that even if not all, at least, some percentages of a sort or certain components of the school fees could be absorbed by the government,” the Student’s Union stated in the release.
NUGS said it will be engaging stakeholders such as the Students’ Loan Trust Fund (SLTF), GetFund, to see how best it can find immediate financial assistance to the students who are unable to afford the payment of fees.
“We want to assure the students of Ghana that their welfare and interest shall always be prioritized by Union”, it told students in Ghana.
