The National Teaching Council (NTC) Monday said it will organize short courses for non-qualified private and public school teachers to enable them to fit to be in classrooms before they are issued a temporary license.
Speaking in an interview monitored by Educationweb.com.gh, the Registrar of the Teaching Council, said his outfit in late 2022 will award all non-qualified teachers a temporary license which can be renewed only 2 times.
“NTC will 18 months after the issuance of license card to qualified in-service teachers will award non-qualified teachers a temporary license which can be renewed for 2 times,” the Registrar, Dr. Christian Addai Poku stated.
He added that “but before that we will organize short courses to enable them to fit to be in the classroom but not enough to be called professional teachers until they upgrade themselves at a teacher training institution.”
The NTC official said the temporary license is to give the teachers the opportunity to upgrade themselves at a teacher training institution, sit for the teacher licensure exams, and be licensed as a qualified teacher.
“For now they shouldn’t panic but they should start taking steps to upgrade themselves at any accredited teacher training university or College of Education in the country and we will license them,” Dr. Addai Poku noted.
Meanwhile, the Executive Secretary of the Council has said his outfit 2025 will sack all unlicensed public and private school teachers from classrooms.
