The management of the Ghana National Service Scheme (GNSS) says the National Teaching Council (NTC) after training some 30,000 national service personnel on a newly developed curriculum will issue them a provisional teaching license.
Mr Osei Assibey Antwi, the Executive Director of the Scheme who announced this at a stakeholder engagement meeting said the license will be issued to prospective service personnel posted to teach at all educational levels.
“30,000 national service personnel who would be posted to teach at all educational levels, would be given at least a month’s training by the time they entered the classroom, they would have provisional teaching license,” he stated.
He added “there is a law in this country which frowns on teaching without pedagogic training, we have linked up with National Teaching Council (NTC) which is developing the curriculum that would be used for the short training.”
The Executive Director of the Ghana Service Scheme (NSS) told relevant stakeholders his outfit is partnering with T-Tel for funding to support the forthcoming training to be organised by the National Teaching Council (NTC).
“NSS is partnering with T-Tel for funding to support the NTC training. The NSS is also arranging for funding to provide a 14-month online training that would give the personnel a professional diploma certificate in teaching,” Osei noted.
In a related development, the National Teaching Council (NTC) says it will at a date yet to be communicated to members of the public commence a mop-up exercise to issue license card to qualified teachers in all regions.
The impending nationwide license card issuance mop-up exercise the Teaching Council told EducationWeb is to ensure all qualified teachers of the Ghana Education Service (GES) are licensed to become professional teachers to teach.
“We will be in the Oti region from Monday, June 6, 2022, to Friday, June 18, 2022, to issue the license cards to eligible teachers. But after that a mop-up will be conducted in various regions across the country,” an NTC official stated.
The management of the National Teaching Council (NTC) as part of efforts to professionalize teaching in the country is last week completed issuance of teaching license cards to qualified government school teachers in the Oti Region.
