Mr Osei Assibey Antwi, the Executive Director of the Scheme at a stakeholder engagement said the education sector service personnel would be given at least a month of training to teach in various classrooms with a provisional license.

“There is a law in this country which frowns on teaching without pedagogic training, we have linked up with National Teaching Council (NTC) which is developing the curriculum that would be used for the short training,” he explained.

Aside from the soon-to-commence training based on the new curriculum, Osei Assibey said his outfit is partnering with T-Tel for funding to support the National Teaching Council (NTC) training for the over 30,000 service personnel.

The Ghana Scheme’s Executive Director also indicated the National Service Scheme (NSS) was seeking for funding to provide a 14-month online training that would give the personnel a professional diploma certificate in teaching.

The former Kumasi Mayor announced the new development at the launch of the flair portal, a website developed by his outfit to equip service personnel with employable skills to be gainfully employed or establish their own enterprises.

According to the NSS official, the online flair portal is an employability platform, which also offers user agencies the opportunity to make requests for graduates with specific skills or training to undertake national service at their end.

“It will offer stakeholders the opportunity to benefit from skill matching information, which includes the course of study or profession and serves as a database that provides information on both personnel and user agencies,” Mr Osei stated.
