Speaking in an interview monitored by Educationweb.com.gh, the IT officer at the Teaching Council, Mr Derrick Nii Adjei Adjei said the license card to be issued to teachers is recognized by the African Federation of Teachers.

“You can teach outside Ghana with the NTC teachers license card, we have an affiliation with the African Federation of Teachers, so they know of our license and are willing to accept Ghanaian license,” the NTC official stated.

Explaining more about teaching outside Ghana with the license card, the Registrar of NTC said an NTC licensed teacher who wants to teach outside Ghana will submit the pin on the card to the employer for confirmation.

“So if you go to Canada and want to teach, you just give them your teacher license card and they will log in to the NTC portal with your pin number on the card and know everything about you,” Dr Christian Addai Poku noted.

The Council as part of an effort to promote teacher professionalization will from Monday issue teachers’ licenses and registration numbers to both qualified public and private school teachers in the Greater Accra region.

According to NTC, all qualified teachers who were employed before September 1, 2018, are required to log on to the National Teaching Council (NTC) Teacher Portal Ghana (TPG) via tpg.ntc.gov.gh and register.

Teachers who are qualified but do not participate in ongoing license and registration numbers exercise the Registrar of NTC, Christain Addai Poku Addai Poku has said shall lose their right to practice as teachers in Ghana.

The phase-out of teachers who do not register at the Teacher Portal Ghana (TPG) from classrooms, Dr. Christain Addai Poku said is in accordance with section 64 (I) of the Education Regulatory Bodies Act, 2020, Act 1023.
