Education economist, Mr Kofi Asare has commended the Registrar of the National Teaching Council (NTC), Dr Christian Addai Poku and staff of the Council for their enormous work towards the commencement of the nationwide teacher license registration which will end in the Greater Accra region on May 26, 2021.
Posting on social media, the Executive Director of Africa Education Watch (EduWatch) said the teacher license registration is a very important milestone on the journey to professionalize teaching.
“President Kufuor signed the law on 6th January 2009, and even though has taken much longer than anticipated to fully operationalize, synonymous with Ghanaian laws, it is heartwarming to witness Teacher Licence Registration commence today,” Kofi Asare stated in the post sighted by EducationWeb.com.gh.
According to him, he between 2010 and 2012, worked as a consultant on the Ghana Education Decentralization Project (WUSC-USAID) which was tasked to develop the institutional and operational frameworks for setting up National Teaching Council (NTC), the National Inspectorate Board (now NaSIA) and the National Council for Curriculum and Assessment (NaCCA).
The nationwide issuance of the NTC license card to qualified in-service teachers when ended in the Greater Accra region on Wednesday will continue at the Central Region and later to other regions in the country.
