NTC meets TTAG over 2022 new teachers portfolio assessment

The National Teaching Council (NTC) after it suspended the conduct of new teachers portfolio assessment has met with the leadership of the Teacher Trainees Association of Ghana (TTAG) to discuss plans for the 2022 academic year.
Dr Christian Addai Poku, the Registrar of the Council in a post sighted by EducationWeb said the TTAG leadership was briefed of the activities in the education sector for the year which will involve them as student teachers.
“Being the first meeting with them for the year, I together with some officers from the NTC used the opportunity to brief them on activities for the year 2022 which will involve them as student teachers,” Addai Poku said on Thursday.
He said trainee teachers in the public Colleges of Education are one of the major stakeholders and that his outfit will continue to work closely with the Management of TTAG to ensure students teachers are comfortable.
“Trainee Teachers in all the teacher education institutions are one of our major stakeholders and as such, the NTC will continue to work closely with TTAG to get the very best in the interest of the student teachers,” the Registrar added.
The Teaching Council and Teacher Trainees Association (TTAG) Thursday meeting comes after the portfolio assessment for newly trained teachers slated for last year was suspended over unfavourable time and vacation of basic schools.
Mr Christian Poku in 2021 told the Association of Teacher Trainees the National Teaching Council (NTC) at the appropriate time after the newly trained teachers have been recruited will announce a date to start the portfolio.
He stated emphatically that any newly qualified teacher who fails to participate in the impending portfolio assessment after the recruitment will not be given a teaching certificate or be licensed as a professional teacher.
Mr Christian speaking to the TTAG leadership said there is a need for all new teachers to participate in the maiden edition of the portfolio assessment since it has a great impact on the professional development of a trained teacher.
The NTC official indicated that the administration of the new teachers’ portfolio assessment will commence after the Ghana Education Service (GES) has completed the recruitment of the newly trained teachers this academic year.
