2021/22 NSS special posting/reposting: What you need to know

As national service postings are released, we usually hear of the term special posting, a process some tertiary graduates have described as paying an amount of money to the NSS to be reposted to a preferred place of choice.

This process has widely been believed and as a result, graduates annually pay huge amounts to unscrupulous individuals for reposting. However, the National Service Scheme (NSS) says there is nothing like special posting.

Speaking in an interview monitored by EducationWeb.com.gh, Madam Gifty Oware-Aboagye, the Deputy Executive Director of the Ghana National Service Scheme (NSS), said her outfit does not encourage or do special posting.

“There is no such posting at the National Service, the thing is if you are posted to a place and they say there is no space just return to the NSS office in your region to report the incident and be reposted for free,” she stated.

According to the Deputy National Service Director, more than 120,000 graduates from various public tertiary institutions across the country this year have registered to undertake the one-year compulsory service to the nation.

She indicated 2021/2022 academic year national service postings will be out after all the accredited tertiary institutions have completed the conduct of their final examination and declared the final year students as graduates.

“The service year commences September, but most students have not completed school yet and our process is that a student cannot start national service whiles in school, you are supposed to be a graduate to be eligible,” Gifty said.

The NSS official added that “most schools have started completing, some are still writing examinations and some are about to do their graduation so when the processes are done Service Scheme will start what we always do.”

Mrs Oware-Aboagye disclosed her outfit has engaged stakeholders in the education sector to ensure the delay of the postings does not affect the over 120,000 students who have registered to undertake the one-year mandatory service.

Explaining the one-year mandatory national service, she is a period used to groom the university graduates most of them have no working experience to know the etiquettes of the Scheme to be employed in the public service.

“The service helps the central government to stop all of the indiscipline and other stuffs of the graduate students, so the national service is a proper economic structure for every government,” the Deputy Executive Director noted.
